The mission of Tyrus Books
We publish crime fiction: stories dealing with crime and its repercussions. We want not only an affecting story and honest characters, but also lyrical writing and attention to craft.
Tyrus Books is invested in the printed book. Tyrus titles are high-quality hardcovers, and we put care into each detail of design and production. We believe that a book should be a beautiful object, worth displaying and keeping. We also believe that books are meant to last through repeated readings, repeated lendings, and the natural wear and tear of being loved.
Additionally, Tyrus Books is committed to exploring all book formats, and looks forward to offering our titles in ebook formats, keeping in mind that there will always be a place on our bookshelves for the real thing.

Alison Janssen, Senior Editor
Alison Janssen began her publishing career in 2003 with Bleak House Books, moving quickly from an intern position to an editorial role.
Alison has worked on titles which have gone on to be nominated for Edgar, Anthony, Shamus, and Barry Awards, as well as titles which have made several crime fiction “Best of” lists. Alison herself was nominated for a 2007 Spinetingler Award for Best Editor.
Alison’s editorial duties include evaluating manuscripts, searching for potential Tyrus Books titles; working with authors on manuscript content; creating and maintaining a complete production schedule; managing relationships with freelance designers, proofreaders, and printers, managing books from acquisition through release date.
Before starting in publishing, Alison graduated from Vassar College with a BFA in theatre. She’s been an avid reader from a young age, thanks to lots of long car rides in her childhood.

Benjamin M. LeRoy, Publisher
Benjamin LeRoy co-founded what would become Bleak House Books in 1995 as an 18 year old college student. He oversaw the day to day operations of the company for fourteen years as it grew from an idea on paper to one of the most respected names in crime fiction.
He was born and raised in Madison, WI. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he graduated with a B.A. (English & Philosophy). He has been profiled by Publishers Weekly, In Business, and Madison Magazine among others. He is frequently invited to lecture at writing and publishing conferences throughout the United States.
In addition to books, he is endlessly interested by baseball (especially what it has meant to the fabric of America), music, and traveling.
