Way back in 2008 when I was at Bleak House Books and the economy was making like Evel Knievel over the cliff, I decided to give away books for the holidays. We tried the same thing last year with Tyrus and it was a wonderful experience. Because we’re running the same program this year, I’m using almost the exact same language. It begins after the period.
Ok, so this is a little different and probably not what they teach at business school, but we’re not really MBA types—we’re in the business of making sure people have a chance to read and enjoy books, because we think books are the cornerstones of so many wonderful experiences in life.
Also, it’s the holiday season (whatever your holiday is, we’re cool with it), and part of the joy of the holiday season is making sure that people know they are loved and appreciated. If you’re here right now reading this, you’re already a part of the extended Tyrus family (even if you’re the crazy uncle that makes us a little nervous every now and then).
Here’s the deal—we’re giving away free books this holiday season. If you follow us on Twitter, you know we do this every now and then. If you don’t know about it, you can read a very sweet article about it here. No strings attached, no gimmicks needed, we just want you to read. Read more at the Huffington Post
So here’s part one: If you are strapped for cash, but you’d really like to give somebody a present so they know that you’re thinking about them and they know how much you love them because you want them to read, we need you to provide us with the name of the book(s) you’d like us to send, the address(es) of the recipient(s), and a personalized message from you (if you want that kind of thing). Yes, books can be plural, but you shouldn’t abuse the system, so be cool about it.
And here’s part two: If you’ve got a couple of extra dollars rattling around in the cushions of your couch that you won’t miss, and you want to help out with the shipping and handling costs, you can donate up to $10 (please, please do not go over $10) to our PayPal account (infoATtyrusbooks.com). We’ll list you by name or initials or nickname on the website. Your help in this matter is just as important as the books that we are giving away. Any left over money at the end will be very transparently donated on behalf of everybody to some literacy charity (we’re taking suggestions).
Thanks to everybody who participates and to those who participate in spirit but don’t actually get involved. If you have any questions, they can be sent to publicityATtyrusbooks.com

This is an incredibly generous offer. I know my budget is stretched to the limit this year and there are some people I’ve had to cross off my list. There’s one in particular, though, who has been really “nice” this year and he deserves something. Thank you for making it possible for me to send him something.
And I will be hitting the paypal button in the next day or two.
Thank you!
